Bloomberg, Not This Time Around

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Michael Bloomberg has announced that he won’t seek the Presidential nomination this time around, and that is probably the right choice for him to make.  While he may want to be President some day, he really had about as much of a chance as Giuliani.

Thank you for making the right choice.  Now can you please call Nader and help him figure things out?

Question of the moment

Monday, February 25th, 2008

The question of the moment, on the Democratic race front, is: If Clinton does not win Texas and Ohio next week, should she quit the race?

While Obama supporters would probably really appreciate that, Clinton should stay in the race for the Democratic nomination as long as she still has a chance to win.  As long as she doesn’t pull a Huckabee and hope for a miracle to some how win a nomination you can’t win, she’ll be fine.

Nader Joins Presidential Race, Unfortunately

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Today Ralph Nader announced that he would be running as a third party candidate for President of the United States.  While it is important to bring different views to the Presidential race, it is also important to be a viable candidate.  After two previous failed attempts, Nader should realize it is not going to happen for him.

The race would be much better off if Ron Paul ran as a third party candidate.  Too bad Nader doesn’t know when to say when.

  2. Obama - 10,408,536 votes (including the “uncommitted” votes from Michigan)

  2. McCain - 5,721,987 votes

Words of Advice for Clinton

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Today on CNN, the news anchors were discussing that this is the first time that Clinton has really been beat in elections, while Obama was beat in his run for the U.S House of Representatives and he learned from that loss.

For Clinton, maybe this quote published in the February 25, 2008 edition of Forbes offer some insight:

“There’s nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you” — Woody Hayes

Maybe with Clinton’s 10th straight loss, she can begin to find the Clinton that was leading Obama by 20 plus points not so long ago.   As long as she keeps trying to play Obama’s game of politics, instead of being herself, she is bound to continue to loose.

Speech Flap Waste of Time

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

The media attention focused on Obama’s use of Massachusetts Gov. Patrick’s speech is all a waste of time.  While Obama should have credited Patrick when he gave the speech, the truth is that Presidents don’t write their own speeches and they don’t credit their writers.  In the end, if Obama is elected President he will have a team of writers that compose most of his speeches and they will be unknown.  Yes, Obama should give credit to Patrick; however, the rest of the issue is just noise.

When Will America Actually Elect The President?

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

With all of the talk of what could happen at the National Democratic Convention in Denver this summer, and what is going on with the super delegates, the question is: when will American actually get to elect The President of the United States?  Currently we are investing millions of dollars to vote for delegates to go to a primary to nominate a candidate for the party.  Then in November we will only vote for the way our states’ electoral college delegates should vote.  All of this and your vote is never actually cast directly for the President.

Maybe it is time to have a national primary and general election in which each person gets to cast one vote, no super delegates and party in-fighting, just you and your vote directly for the President.

Clinton Wins New Mexico, Better Late Than Never

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

In what may be one of the worst press conferences ever, the Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) announced today that Clinton won the “presidential pre-primary caucuses.”

The total votes (that matter) were as follows:

  1. Clinton -  73,105
  2. Obama - 71,396

Popular Vote, Updated

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

As the argument over Super Delegates continues on the Democratic side, here are the current totals for the popular vote. The one, and only vote, that should count for who gets the nomination for each party. No one should get to vote twice or have their vote count for more than 1 vote.

On the Democratic side the vote would current sit with the following results:

  1. Clinton - 8,805,371 votes
  2. Obama - 8,364,927 votes (including the “uncommitted” votes from Michigan)

On the Republican side, McCain continues to dominate either way:

  1. McCain - 4,831,360 votes
  2. Huckabee - 2,352,986 votes
  3. Romney - 3,994,403 votes

Clinton Needs to Step It Up

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

With 76% of the vote tallied in Virginia, Obama is easily walking away with the votes by a margin of nearly 2 to 1.  Clinton has continually put her focus on Texas and Ohio, but at what cost?  Clinton is beginning to look like Giuliani in Florida.  Clinton will really need to step it up over the next few elections or she is going to join Romney on the bench with a “suspended” campaign and an embarrassing loss when weeks ago she was riding high on her way to the nomination.

For Clinton she really needs to relax and be herself.  Clinton is much better when she is just being Clinton.  Watch her after an election and her speeches are energetic and motivating.  Clinton has a lot of work to do over the next few weeks.  While she has put Bill Clinton back in the closest, it seems that she has forgot his popular saying that “you never look past the current election.”  It seems like Clinton has done just that, and Obama taking care of business in the mean time.
